To apply for admission at XLRI-XMS, aspirants need to fill in an application form online and pay the registration fee online too. Once the candidate is registered, they can appear for the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), an online entrance test held by the college every year in January.

The test is held in 72 cities across the country and over 150 institutes grant admission based on the candidate's XAT score. XAT consists of various components and a candidate has to perform satisfactorily in each one of them to gain admission.

The selection and eligibility criteria vary for different programmes. The college shortlists students for group discussion or/and personal interview based on their XAT score.

Candidates who apply to multiple programmes may be invited for multiple group discussions and/or interviews. Final selection is done based on an applicant's XAT score, performance in personal interview and/or group discussion, academic record, relevant work experience and extracurricular activities.
